Why have body work?
In my experience it is quite transformational to feel your body let go of a habit, pain, injury, scar tissue, which you have been knowingly or unknowingly carrying. The monetary investment is worth the feeling of freedom good body work can give you.
Due to the challenging nature of this work, I recommend having body work to help break down any blockages and re-connect that part of you to your centre.
What does that mean? Well, say you have a stiff hip which inhibits your movements, causes you discomfort whenever bend forward. I gently, over the course of a few treatments, lengthen the contracted tissue and re-align it so that each time it moves, you will connect that movement from your spine, through the blockage into the limb and out of the body. In this way we reeducate the body to realign itself through practice and eventually everyday movement.
My main influence in Body work is Peter Niemela, who uses a combination of deep tissue manipulation combined with the gentle manipulation of the bodies natural rhythms and osteopathy to realign, bring health and freedom back into the spine. The work is the most profound and effective form of body work I have ever come across. It is a real honor to be able to practice some of it.
I employ one of three main methods.
One method uses fascial work, where I manipulate the connective tissue or fascia, which is basically the parts of your body which join everything together. I ‘unstick‘ stuck parts so they can ‘flow’ together, move easily against against one-another. This process can be painful, much the same as looking at old wounds can be painful.
The next is re-balancing the subtle energies of the body, otherwise known as Crania-Sacral osteopathy. The effect of this can be deeply relaxing, though the effect of treatments only seem to last up to week. So I tend to use this in conjunction, or as a prelude to the deeper, more permanent change which seems to come with fascial work.
I can also employ healing work as taught by my teacher Kriyaji, which appear to effect the deeper emotional elements which can lie at the heart of ones physical blockages.
